Removing Your Wisdom Teeth Might be the Wisest Thing You Do!

Pericoronitis

Pericoronitis

If you have begun feeling pain in the back of your mouth, it could be your wisdom teeth breaking through your gums. In many people, the appearance of wisdom teeth creates difficulties, such as Pericoronitis, that require them to be removed. At the office of Dr. Andres de Cardenas, we can safely and easily remove your wisdom teeth!

Wisdom teeth typically come in between the ages of 17 to 25 but can cause complications right when they appear. Pericoronitis is one of the complications that can arise. It happens when wisdom teeth only partially break through your gums, which in turn opens the door for bacteria and infection that can spread beyond the mouth if it is severe enough.

There are several different ways your wisdom teeth can come in, which may cause them to have to be removed. If they are unable to break through the gums, come in at an odd angle, or if your mouth has no room for an extra set of molars, it can cause pain and discomfort.

If your wisdom teeth do break through the gums but not all the way it can lead to Pericoronitis, which is an infection of the gums. Symptoms of Pericoronitis include accumulation of fluid in the gums, swelling, leaking of pus, and difficulty opening the mouth. Depending on the severity of the infection, a dentist may prescribe painkiller medications or remove your wisdom teeth entirely.
